What is a Website?

A website is composed of several elements that are essential to achieve a goal. What is that goal? Representing yourself on the INTERNET. We will compare it to your HOME; to get there, you need to have the address on hand, and with it you can reach it easily, but what happens if your house is not yet built? When you invite your friends, they will be able to arrive using your address but will see nothing more than a pile of cobwebs.

In the world of the Internet, the first step is to create your address for your business or activity, which will always represent you. This is called a “Web Domain Name,” through which you can invite your friends and clients to visit your website; for example, the domain of FIIXCOM is www.fiixcom.com, isn’t it nice?

But wait, you still need to build your HOME; and to build it, you wouldn’t want to use the cheapest materials, without proper foundations or adequate tools. Similarly, your website – besides representing you on the INTERNET – should be built with only the very best, in line with your highest objectives.

I’m confused, what else can a website do for me?

Well, I think we need to show you several things. First, you need to know that there are various types of Websites on the Internet; some are just Informational Pages about businesses or activities, while others are Web Applications that perform various operations which we can list below:

  • Content Management Systems (CMS)
  • Online Stores (E-commerce)
  • News Pages
  • Social Networks
  • Tools for Administrative Controls
  • Web Services
  • Others

Normally, we classify websites into two categories: STATIC WEBSITE and DYNAMIC WEBSITE. As the name suggests, one always has the same content – it’s like viewing your house exactly as you left it the last time you were in it, which might sound a bit boring, right? Well, a DYNAMIC WEBSITE has many more advantages; you can continually update your content, just like rearranging your living room from time to time or changing a few pictures in your home.

Furthermore, a DYNAMIC WEBSITE can remain up-to-date if your business sector is constantly evolving; for example, if a newspaper had a STATIC WEBSITE, it would be boring and uninteresting to revisit, which is why a dynamic site is much more effective in attracting visitors.

DYNAMIC WEBSITE

A DYNAMIC WEBSITE requires a web application to help you manage its content; for that, we will talk a little more about web applications.

WEB APPLICATIONS

A Web App is a system that runs in your browser; therefore, it is available privately or publicly through your domain name mentioned earlier, and it does not require installing anything – which is extremely advantageous. When we were talking about dynamic sites, we saw how they typically use a content management system, and now we will see what that is used for:

CMS (CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM) or Content Management System

With the CMS, you can manage all of the administrative backend of your website, through which you can upload photos, posts, modify your advertising spaces, add new functionalities, manage your contacts, among other tasks – all to keep your website fresh, updated, and filled with new content.

There are quite a few CMS options, such as the well-known Wordpress; at FIIXCOM, we have developed our own, which is ready to be installed on your website whenever you need it, and we can integrate or add new functionalities so that your site is exactly as you require.

E-COMMERCE (Online Store)

An online store can be somewhat complex to manage and to keep every element of the process under control. Which process? Sales! For that, we need to conduct a study and determine which tools are most appropriate for you and your business. At FIIXCOM, we offer various options to enable your online store so that it can have the reach you require.

ONLINE NEWSROOM OR BLOG

If you run an institution dedicated to journalism and need a website that offers the design, dynamism, and flexibility required to manage the different levels of an editorial team, you are in the right place. We have a CMS developed exclusively for creating sites oriented towards journalism. You can visit our sample page that demonstrates our capabilities in this regard: https://www.sinaloahoy.com.mx

TOOLS FOR ADMINISTRATIVE CONTROLS

Do you want to manage your business from a single place, accessible from anywhere? You are in the right place; with our online business management systems, you can keep track of the following:

  • Banks
  • Accounting
  • Accounts Payable
  • Accounts Receivable
  • Point of Sale
  • Special Reports
  • Electronic Invoicing

You can have them together or separately; in either case, your business information will always be available on any platform.

WEB SERVICES

This part is a bit tricky to understand, so let’s move to the definition of what a Web Service (WS) is.

A Web Service (in English, web service or web services) is, according to Wikipedia, a technology that uses a set of protocols and standards to exchange data between applications. Different software applications developed in various programming languages and running on any platform can use web services to exchange data over computer networks like the Internet.

In this way, we take care of implementing or making use of WS for operations that require it; for example, if your company needs to centralize information to consult it from a single place—suppose you have three systems operating in your business (one for point of sale, two for purchases, and three for banking)—which might sound a bit illogical, but companies sometimes face these types of issues. That is when exchanging information between different systems built on various platforms needs to interact via a common factor, and that is where web services fulfill their role in addressing this challenge.

What is responsive design?

When designing the interface of a website, we always want to reach everyone regardless of the device they are using to view our site – whether it’s a Smartphone, Tablet, SmartTV, Laptop, or Desktop. That’s why at FIIXCOM we design each website to be responsive; it’s essential so that all your clients and friends can enjoy your website, regardless of the platform they are using.
