¿What is a data center or site? (SITE)

A Data Center, or Data Processing Center, is the place where an organization's entire technological infrastructure for information processing is organized, as well as where all its communications and media converge.

Due to the importance of a data center, installation characteristics that meet the highest quality standards are required, so that it operates correctly and with as few incidents as possible.

A data center is composed of:

• Networking Equipment (Switches, Routers, Firewalls, among others)
• Racks for equipment organization
• Cable management trays and mounting systems
• Grounded electrical installation
• Power supply redundancy with fault tolerance (UPS, No-break)

Okay, and ¿What should I know if I want to have my own SITE or data center?

When planning and designing a data center, the following should be taken into account:

Strategic Location

It should be located in a place that is accessible and central to the different levels of access within the organization for the use of the various services that will be provided through the data center.

One thing to keep in mind is that not everyone can enter; you must restrict access to unauthorized personnel, since it is the most sensitive area of your company, where your information is stored and your stability depends on this place.

Risk Prevention

It must be taken into account that the location is not prone to floods, fires, landslides, or structural incidents, theft of equipment or information, or water installations (rainwater or potable), among others.

We know of places where fires have occurred, and thanks to good planning, the data centers have been able to recover everything easily.

Budget

Anticipate, plan, and design all of the above taking into account the project costs plus any additional costs such as permits, contracts, or installation for additional electrical supply, additional contracts with ISPs or other service providers.

• Channeling for the convergence of physical media or cabling
• Space cooling
• Personnel access control
• Security safeguarding for both the site and the equipment
• Detection of fires and floods
• Monitoring of the services provided by the data center
• Scheduled backups between servers
• Clustering (synchronization between servers)
